Speaking Out for a Better America!

Schools Need to Return to High Standards and Common Decency

Some of you may be aware of a controversial book that has parents concerned in New Jersey, and several other states. This book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie can be found on many intermediate school library shelves and has become required reading for our freshmen high school students. I am writing today because I would like to address what I feel is an even greater concern that we are facing today as parents and educators.

Most people would agree that our country’s film and music industry often, shall we say, “lacks etiquette.” It is not surprising that young adult fiction has rapidly followed suit. What is surprising is that many of our schools have succumbed to the influence by throwing their high standards to the wind and adopting these unsuitable works into their curricula. While it is apparent that the naïve and simple adolescent world of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys is virtually extinct, what has not been quite as evident is how far young adult fiction has descended from that world and has begun to infiltrate our schools.

These days if a novel happens to slip under a parent’s radar it could be a costly price for their child to pay, as the contents of many of these young adult novels deemed educational would distress any principled adult. It seems that the infliction of impropriety through the media has created an overall deadening of the senses and has given way to the adaptation of an “anything goes” philosophy in many of our schools.

One down, nine to go

The Obama administration had its usual Friday "Oh, that's not really bad news" press release yesterday (10/14/11).

I understand how press releases work, I was responsible for them for a short period of time at my last company. If it was something that would positively affect the stock price, the release would go on a Tuesday or Thursday, around 10am. If it was a negative piece, Friday at 4:45pm, hopefully with lots of other news happening.

You want to hide the negative. I get it. Unless of course the press release is from an administration that promised transparency. You know, openness, Kumbaya singing with locked arms around the campfire.

On Friday came the news that the CLASS Act (the Community Living Assistance Services Act, apparently the smartest president EVER can't spell either) is being dumped. It seems that the cost of the program, one that would give money to pay for even non-medical needs, is simply "unworkable". (News flash for the smartest president EVER - you were told this over and over and over.) One part down, nine more to go.

Ok, so now that we passed it, they are finally getting around to reading it? Remember, Nancy Pelosi (Liberal Witch-CA) said we needed to pass it to see what was in it. I guess Obozo and his minions are finally getting around to actually reading the thing.

Playing both sides - at least one of them for fools

I am not sure who are the bigger fools, those occupying Wall St. or those that are going to sit on the sidelines this coming election and let these people get another four years in control of the federal government.

Recently the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee jumped on the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) support bandwagon with a "petition" page where you can send a message to Speaker of the House John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. The pre-made message implores them that "It's time for millionaires, billionaires, and Big Oil companies to pay their fair share." Their goal is 100,000 strong standing with Occupy Wall Street.

Joe "I'm with Bozo" Biden has said “What is the core of that protest, and why is it increasing in terms of the people it’s attracting? The core is the bargain has been breached with the American people. The American people do not think the system is fair or on the level.”

Joe is standing with the OWS crowd. So is Rep Steny Hoyer (Liberal-MD). He defended the OWS crowd from criticism leveled at them by Cantor.

So isn't it a little strange that Mr. Biden had a special lunch today (10/13/11). The fact that Joe had lunch isn't strange, but who he entertained and rubbed elbows with is. Plus, I am sure that the folks down at Occupy Wall Street would find it reprehensible if John Boehner had lunch with these people. But since it was the liberal faction it's ok.

See Joe attended a State Department luncheon on Thursday. It was put on for the President of South Korea, Lee Myung-bak. Now it may have been rude of Joe to turn down the invitation but considering that he supports OWS should he and House Minority Whip, Rep Steny Hoyer (Liberal-MD) really have sat at the same table as:

No, no, no, thats a DIFFERENT Pelosi......

STEP 1: Today the Department of Energy announced $1 Billion in new loans to solar companies…

STEP 2: SolarReserve [one of the loan recipients] is partnered with a company called PCG – Pacific Corporate Group…

STEP 3: The number two guy at Pacific Corporate Group is Ronald Pelosi. Coincidence???

They really think we are that stupid.

Happy 224th!

It is the 224th birthday of the US Constitution. On this joyous occasion, I invite you to find a copy of the US Constitution and read it. Knowledge is the only defense against the ignorance that is rampant in this country today. This country may be able to survive a Barack Obama but it cannot survive an ignorant citizenry that elects people like him.

The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the United States of America. It is the framework for the organization of the United States government and for the relationship of the federal government with the states, citizens, and all people within the United States.

The first three Articles of the Constitution establish the three branches of the national government: a legislature, the bicameral Congress; an executive branch led by the President; and a judicial branch headed by the Supreme Court. They also specify the powers and duties of each branch. All unenumerated powers are reserved to the respective states and the people, thereby establishing the federal system of government.

The Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787, by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and ratified by conventions in each U.S. state in the name of "The People". It has been amended twenty-seven times; the first ten amendments are known as the Bill of Rights.

The United States Constitution is the second oldest written constitution still in use by any nation in the world after the 1600 Statutes of San Marino. It holds a central place in United States law and political culture. The handwritten original document penned by Jacob Shallus is on display at the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C.

A Couple of Real Life Crony Capitalists

Sarah Palin's latest speech at the Iowa Tea Party last week has received a lot of attention - even positive attention from the NY Times - due to its effective and groundbreaking content. Palin spoke extensively about crony capitalism, and what she calls the "permanent political class" on both sides of the party line. These are the wealthy, intellectual elitists of America who have made it so big that their egos have become as overblown as their bank accounts. Consequently, they have determined that they know what's best for us "regular people." Forget vast right-wing or left-wing conspirators, these permanent political class leaders are in a party of their own and they have been conspiring together like one big Mensa meeting-of-the-minds as a totalitarian faction.

We Americans should be most angered by these crony capitalists in our country because in retrospect, they are responsible for the world's hatred toward us. If anyone has blood on their hands, it's the corporate crony capitalists because they misrepresent what a free market society is all about. They have mastered the art of using taxpayer money to pad their own pockets and have deceived the American people with false representation so they can either accumulate more wealth or strategically position themselves for re-election.

Let's consider some real life leaders from this permanent political class that Palin was referring:

Example #1: Michael Bloomberg. Here is a self-appointed third term mayor of New York City with a net worth of over $18 billion. Bloomberg made a determination that he was above the law and disregarded the voice of the people despite numerous polls that showed widespread support for term limits in the few months leading up to his election. In 1993 and 1996 city voters passed term limits by overwhelming margins,
