Speaking Out for a Better America!

Nurture or Tenure - The Value of a Teacher

Why is it that our country spends more money on education than any other country in the world, yet our students continually lag behind those of other countries? We have conducted standardized tests, we have strongly adhered to a 25:1 or less student-teacher ratio, we’ve implemented the “No Child Left Behind” policy. Many of our schools have teacher aids and advanced technology in the classroom. We are left dumbstruck because no matter how much funding, aid, smart boards and laptops we have, strides are not being made. Why is this so? It could be possible that money simply cannot buy certain basic philosophical needs that are necessary for education to flourish. Research has found that a teacher is the most important factor in the classroom and the quality of the teacher is twenty times more important with regard to successful student learning than any other factor, including class size, funding, student population, academic specialty or anything else. It has been proven that the consequences of both effective and ineffective teachers remain with the student for at least 2 years and that a student will remember how a teacher made them feel more than any other lesson given in the classroom.

What is an effective teacher and how do we produce them? Over the last 50 years studies have found that human beings need to learn in a loving, secure, safe environment and to feel a sense of belonging

It All Comes Down to Character...

Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko, Reverend Wright, now Rod Blagojevich….??? Who, we are learning, may also have ties to David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett (we knew our suspicion of her was warranted!) Rumor has it that Rahm Emanuel tipped off the feds…wonder if there has been any dead fish in Blagojevich’s mailbox? What next? Is it unreasonable to say that our President-elect is either extremely naïve or a talented actor?

According to ABC’s The Fan, Blagojevich was recorded saying (in reference to the vacant Senate seat), “I’ve got this thing and it’s bleep’n

Is an Atheist Sign a Religious Symbol?

It is the Christmas time of year, a festive time to display religious symbols of this long standing traditional holiday. Christmas trees, wreaths and nativities adorn our homes, streets and town centers across the nation. At this time and throughout the year, all faiths should have the right to display their religious symbols that represent the particular holiday they are celebrating. Religious symbols are a depiction of a belief in religion. Hanukkah and Kwanzaa candles also decorate homes and town centers. What exactly does an Atheist believe in...

As a teen, Jarrett spent her summers traveling to Ghana, Nigeria and Egypt among other places.  She remains a key player in her hometown, where she serves as vice chair of the Chicago 2016 Olympic Committee and bonds with local entrepreneurs, journalists, politicians, union bosses and activists. Do They Care About America?

Some random thoughts as I read the news and other blogs:

"The consensus is this, that we have to do whatever it takes to get this economy moving again, that we're going to have to spend money now to stimulate the economy." Barack Obama, Emperor - elect

Remember back in July when Michelle Obama, Empress - elect, said of the Bush stimulus package:

“You’re getting $600. What can you do with that? Not to be ungrateful or anything. But maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn’t pay down every bill every month.

“Barack’s approach is that the short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good. And it may even feel good that first month when you get that check. And then you go out and you buy a pair of earrings.” Michelle Obama

How much is Emperor - elect Obama going...

What is a Human Right and Where Does it Come From?

It seems as though our freedom has gotten us into a lot of trouble lately. We’ve decided that simply because we live in America, we have the “right” to do many unscrupulous things. We have the “right” to report the news however we want to even if it’s an outright lie, we have the “right” to marry whomever we want to regardless of gender, and we have the “right” to partial-birth abortion because the ban violates a woman’s right to privacy.

What exactly are human rights and what source are they derived from? Are human beings simply entitled to any right we deem suitable and do we have the liberty to call them inalienable? While many of us often refer to the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution to confirm our human rights, this method of verification cannot be our only source of credibility. What was the origin of our rights before these documents existed? What many fail to acknowledge is that the Declaration of Independence does, in fact, credit another source of orientation...
